AM We exploring Addis Ababa beginning with a visit to the National Museum, one of the most important sub- Saharan museums in all of Africa? The museum is home to the fossilized humanoid Lucy, as well as an amazing collection of artefacts, royal items and art. We then visit the Ethnological Museum, which was the former palace of Haile Selassie.

PM we take time in St. George Cathedral, built in 1896 by Emperor Menelik and then continue on to Holy Trinity Cathedral. Holy Trinity Cathedral is the largest Orthodox Church in Ethiopia and has survived through many historical periods, as its interesting architecture can attest to. Archeological tour to Adadimariam Tiya and Dilla

Day 01:

Arrival.

Day 02:
City tour in Addis to visit the National Museum to witness the reconstructed Skelton of Lucy, 3.2 million years old and the oldest child selam 3.5 million years and quite aged stone tools excavated and formed at several archaeological sites in different parts of the country including Hadar archeological sites. Overnight at the Hotel.

Day 03:
Drive to the five pale ontological sites found around the Rock -Hewn church of Adadi Mariam to witness million years old stone tools including bifax lavalwa and obsidian axes choppers and needles with incredible dating on camping.

Day 04:
Continue the other officially formed for tourism pale ontological sites either by mule back or walking as the sites is found in close proximity and camping on.

Day 05:
Drive from Adadi Marian to Butujara visiting tiya stele field, then continue to the pale ontological site near ziway and walk to the Mountain to find the obsidian stone tools on camping.

Day 06:
Drive to Dilla to the registered stele field in its abundant number of monolithic stones at Tutu Fella near Dilla town on Dilla.

Day 07:
Drive to konso along the road that crosses the Kenya on border up to Yabello and turn to the right to visit to konso, another important pale ontological site around konso.

Day 08:
Konso.

Day 09:
Drive back to Langano through Arbaminch before beginning archeological sight seeing at Hadar near the Danakali depression.

Day 10:
Drive to Hadar through Nazareth and Awash enjoying the rift valley upper pArcheological tour to Adadimariam Tiya and Dillaart and the nearly situated rift valley escarpment near Awash then head to the final destination Hadar archeological site where they found the Lucy famous fossil. Overnight camping.

Day 11:
Spend the whole day discovering the nearby sites of archaeology and many other sites in the area. Overnight camping.

Day 12:
Drive back to Nazareth and relax the last day of the trip.

Day 13:
Drive back to Addis the capital and departure.

Debre Libanos & the Jemma River Gorge

Debre Libanos is an important monastic centre for Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity, the monastery there was founded by the renowned 13th century mystic, Saint Teklehaimanot and there is a small cave near the church (which is of recent construction) where he is said to have stood for seven years on one leg, until the other wasted away and dropped off.

On this tour visitors can combine history and culture with some good bird watching, as we pass through the Sululta Plain we can see Black-winged plovers, Wattled Ibis, Blue-winged geese, Common Cranes and Wheat ears. We will also see one of Ethiopia’s endemic mammals, the Gelada or bleeding heart baboon. (In the gorge we will see a variety of vultures – Lammergeyer, Ruppell and Lappet faced vultures.)

Leaving the Gorge we proceed to the church. After the church visit we can make the climb to the cave of St Teklehaimanot. Near the cave monks may show visitors the remains of some 300 monks, slaughtered in 1936 by the Italian invaders. If you continue up the hill from the cave from the top there is a great view of the surrounding countryside. We will have picnic at Gorge or from Ethio- German Lodge. Walk to Portuguese Bridge of the 16thc during the war between Lowland Muslim and Highland Christian, built to connect Shewa and Gojam then retrace to Addis.

Malka Kunture, Adada Mariam & Tiya

Morning after breakfast we head to south-west on the Jimma road, before turning due south on to the Butajira Road. Melka Kunture lies near the Awash River Gorge and is one of the most important Neolithic sites in Ethiopia. Hand axes and various other implements have been found here. There is a museum at the site.

Further drive on the Butajira Road turn to right after 8km there is rock hewn church of Adadi Mariam, contemporaneous with those of Lalibela – in fact local tradition ascribes it to King Lalibela who is said to have had it built on his visit to Mount Ziquala.

Our final stop today is at Tiya, classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, where we can see the northernmost example of a peculiar type of engraved, standing stelae which stretch across parts of southern Ethiopia. These stelae are believed to have been erected between the 12th and 14th centuries and are almost certainly grave markers – recent excavations at Tiya have revealed the remains of young people of both sexes, aged between 18 to 30 years old buried in foetal positions. A two Days trip to Menagesha & Guder

Duration : 2 Days Transportation : Surface Destination : Menagesha & Guder DAY 01 After breakfast visit the tranquil-Menagesha Forest, a 35km drive from Addis and enjoy picnic lunch. After picnic lunch visit the nearby Menagesha Mariam Monastery, Then continue in the west ward route to Ambo town where you will visit the Addis Alem Mariam church and the waterfall at Guder. Dinner and overnight at Ambo Ethiopia Hotel. DAY 02 Drive back to Addis Ababa, Overnight at the preferred Hotel at Addis Ababa.

Awash National Park and Surroundings

Duration : 3 Days Transportation : Surface Destination : Awash National Park Day 01 Friday – Early drives to Awash for four about hours and then enjoy the splendid beauty of Awash river waterfall. After lunch break game drive to Salla plains for wild life and bird watching. Day 02 Saturday- Start driving to the foothills of mount Fentale where you can begin the five hours trek to the volcano. Then drive back to the beautiful natural spa or palm pool with picnic lunch. From there drive to the remote Sabure typical Afar peoples Saturday market where they have separate cattle and commodity market. After taking the picnic lunch at the hot springs drive to lake Beseka near the Hyena Cave to see the Hyena’s leave the cave here one can see a minimum of twenty to thirty Hyena while enjoying the aquatic birds at lake Beseka including the rare Pink Flamingoes. Then drive back to Awash National Park and O/n there. Day 03 Sunday- Early morning to the southern section of the park for another game viewing, and start driving back to Addis Ababa stopping at Nazareth for Lunch before returning back to the capital ending the trip.
