This 8-day fly/drive tour around the historic northern loop of Ethiopia gives a fantastic insight into the cultural heritage of Ethiopia.
After spending one night in Addis Ababa, we fly to Lalibela. Lalibela is famed for its amazing 12th century rock-hewn churches. After spending three nights in Lalibela we will then travel (by car) to the city of Gondar to see their famous castles.
After visiting Gondar we will travel 3 hours south by car to the city of Bahir Dar. Bahir Dar is a modern Ethiopian city located on the shores of Lake Tana (Ethiopia’s largest lake and also the source of the Blue Nile river). From here we will take a boat trip to visit the isolated island monasteries on Lake Tana. We will also travel to the Blue Nile falls, one of Ethiopia’s most spectacular waterfalls.
From Bahir Dar, we’ll fly back to the capital Addis Ababa to complete the loop.
