The Erta Ale volcano is a continuously active basaltic shield volcano in the Afar Region of northeastern Ethiopia. It is situated in the Afar Depression, a badland desert area spanning the border with Eritrea. Erta Ale is the most active volcano in Ethiopia.
To get to the volcano, you will drive through mountain passes, across desert sands, off-road through a lava field before hiking 3 hours to the top of the volcano. That night you will spend an unforgettable night under the stars next to the lava lake!
